Ann Cleeves worked as a probation officer, bird observatory cook and auxiliary coastguard before she started writing, 20 years ago. er novel Raven Black, the first in the Shetland Quartet, on the Duncan Lawrie Dagger for 2006 and brought her to a wider audience. er books have been translated into a dozen languages.White Nights the second in the series will be published in April 2008.
