Kim Squirrell
Born in Birmingham in 1958, Kim Squirrell has worked as a freelance artist and writer in environmental theatre and experiential education. At 17 she declared herself a poet and moved to rural Durham where she began to write from a first-hand experience of the landscape. In 1992 she studied English and Fine Art at the University of Exeter and explored language and marginality through writing, performance and installations. Her poetry was published in the Poetry Review and she was invited to read at the 1992 new Poets Festival. She has been longlisted for the Complete Works II development programme and for the 2016 Bray Literary Festival Flash Fiction prize. Her poems have appeared in the Out of Bounds anthology (Bloodaxe, 2012) under her maiden name Kim O’Loughlin. In 2016 she recorded readings for the Out of Bounds Digital project and began a part-time creative writing MA at the University of Exeter. She lives in Dorset with her husband David and their two children, where they run a bindery and letterpress studio.
